How we calculate

These are the rules every calculator on this site follows, so results are consistent from one tool to the next.

Time is added up before it is rounded

We convert every entry to exact seconds, add them, and round only the final result. Rounding each entry first can drift by several minutes over a pay period.

Decimal places

Results default to two decimal places, the usual precision for payroll. Where it matters, you can choose more.

Rules and sources

When a page explains a rule, such as overtime or time rounding, it links to the original federal or state source. We review each page periodically and show the date of the last review at the bottom.

Your data

Calculations run in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us or stored. If you copy a result link, the inputs are part of that link so the result can be reopened.

If a result looks wrong, email hello@hourandpay.com with the inputs you used and we will check it.
